But this beauty from South Africa’s famed Gabb family and their acclaimed Journey’s End estate takes it one step further. Named for the MAMMOTH—and fully functional—trebuchet that proudly sits on the estate’s front lawn, this Trebuchet is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Malbec that was aged in fine French oak barrels for seven months—look for intense aromas of black fruits (plum, currant, blackberry) that follow along on the palate. The finish is long and remarkably fresh, with hints of toasted baking spices lingering on… In South Africa, they’d fire up the braai (their version of a barbecue, pronounced “brr-eye”) and serve this with all manner of sausages, steaks, burgers (beef OR veggie!), pork ribs, and more.
