2021 Cannery Row Viognier

While the Steinbeck novel may evoke images of rolling fog and fisheries, this Cannery Row Viognier exhibits nothing but flowers and fresh citrus. The nose opens with delicate floral aromas, quickly followed by vibrant notes of peach and apricot. On the palate, you’ll find bright citrus flavors like lemon and grapefruit, leading to a crisp finish accented by a final hint of hibiscus. Viognier originated in Condrieu, a historic winemaking district in the northern Rhône region of France. The varietal held little caché outside of Condrieu until the late 1980s when it quickly spread worldwide. The grape is early-budding and mid-ripening, meaning it’s vulnerable to disease and takes a great deal of time and expertise to cultivate just right. Fortunately, these Cannery Row winemakers are the perfect handlers for Viognier, selecting only the best berries for fermentation in this 2021 California white. We recommend serving this Viognier chilled at around 50° F with light and spicy dishes that have made their name on the golden coast.
