Aberfeldy is the only distillery built by the Dewar family, and there were several reasons why sons Tommy and John Alexander Dewar decided to build a whisky distillery in the heart of Perthshire on the outskirts of the village of Aberfeldy.
For example, a superb natural water source, the Pitilie Burn, ran past the distillery and is still used to make Aberfeldy today.
Then, there were excellent transport links by train to nearby Perth, bringing fuel and barley to the distillery and returning the finished product to be blended and bottled.
The distinct character of the Aberfeldy 12 results from uniting the Highland's finest natural resources. A fruity, clean, and polished malt with a touch of honey and spice, this expression is an excellent introduction to this Highland distillery.
Nose: Creamy. Some sherried fruit with a trailing hint of smoke. Prune, custard and espresso bean.
Palate: Sweet, malty, a gentle peat, but nonetheless, the mouth feel is very clean. Vanilla, peaches in cream and subtle oak.
Finish: Ginger, malt, nutty nougat and maybe a little grapefruit zest.
