Lincoln Henderson was a Bourbon Hall of Fame member, having been the creator and Master Distiller for several brands in the Brown-Forman portfolio, notably Gentleman Jack and Woodford Reserve.
Angel’s Envy was Lincoln's brainchild. In 2011, he came out of retirement to start the brand with his son Wes. The concept was a simple one, but one that goes against hundreds of years of traditional Bourbon distilling: finishing Bourbon in Port or Rum casks instead of (only) new American oak casks.
To Scotch enthusiasts, this won’t seem like a big deal at all, but to Bourbon purists, it was heresy. Bourbon, by definition, has to be matured in new charred oak casks, so the idea of adding another cask to the process was considered sacrilege by some Bourbon fans. However, there is very little argument that the Henderson's created a first-rate whisky that is now enjoyed the world over.
Nose: Notes of subtle vanilla, raisins, maple syrup and toasted nuts
Palate: Vanilla, ripe fruit, maple syrup, toast and bitter chocolate
Finish: Clean and lingering sweetness with a hint of Madeira that slowly fades
