Jamaica’s oldest continuously operating rum distillery, Appleton Estate, has a signature blend you must get your hands on. Because the estate controls cane sourcing (the company grows cane on Nassau Valley) and fermentation culture, the rum carries a consistent “place” character rather than a generic industrial profile. 

On the nose, you get candied orange peel and baked pineapple, then a sweep of brown sugar and molasses that sits against a subtle undercurrent of toasted coconut and nutmeg. The palate is medium in weight with a rounded midsection. You get caramelized pineapple and stewed apricot right out the gate. After that, you get toffee and baking spice that resolves into a finish of vanilla bean, toasted oak, and a citrus lift. The finish lingers with a pleasant dryness and a whisper of ginger that invites another sip. 

This bottle was formerly known as Appleton Estate V/X - so if that sounds familiar, it's because it might be! Released in 2015, Appleton Estate's Signature Blend Rum has earned quite the notable accolade or two. In 2022, at the Ultimate Spirits Challenge, it received 92 points and was praised for its great value and excellence.
