Babylonstoren is one of the oldest Cape Dutch farms in South Africa — set at the foot of Simonsberg in the Franschhoek wine valley, where the farm has been cultivating vines, fruit, and vegetables since the 17th century. The Babel Red Blend is the estate’s most ambitious expression: a nine-variety blend of Shiraz, Pinotage, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Malbec, Petit Verdot, Mourvèdre, Grenache Noir, and Marselan, each component aged separately in oak barrels before blending. The result is a wine of remarkable complexity and generosity for the price.
Deep ruby in color. The nose is inviting and layered: ripe black fruit, dark plum, and a savory edge of cigar and warm spice. On the palate, it is dry and full-bodied, with a soft, juicy mouthfeel from careful oak aging and a lingering, fruit-forward finish that rewards every sip. Youthful and vibrant, with enough depth to cellar or enjoy right now.
A nine-variety Cape blend at an honest price — Babylonstoren Babel is the benchmark for what Western Cape red blending can be.
