Basil Hayden 10 Year Rye Whiskey. Jim Beam Distillery / Beam Suntory, Clermont, Kentucky — the first rye whiskey in Basil Hayden history to carry a 10-year age statement, building on the success of the 10 Year Bourbon by applying the same decade-of-patience philosophy to a rye mash bill, delivering spice, oak, caramel, and tobacco from ten years of Kentucky aging at 80 proof — light enough to examine on the palate without the burn of higher-proof ryes.
When Beam Suntory launched the Basil Hayden 10 Year Bourbon, the natural question was whether the same aging philosophy could be applied to rye. The 10 Year Rye answers that question: the same slightly spicy, approachable Basil Hayden rye character — the slightly spicy yet accessible rye that defined the original Basil Hayden Rye — developed over a full decade in new charred American oak barrels. The result is what ten years does to rye: the grain's natural spice character fully integrated with oak depth, the caramel and vanilla that extended wood contact adds, and the tobacco and dried fruit notes that decade-plus rye aging in Kentucky produces.
At 80 proof — lower than most serious rye expressions, which typically run 90–100 proof — the 10 Year Rye is Basil Hayden's philosophy made explicit: age-stated complexity at a proof that invites exploration rather than demands tolerance. The lighter proof allows the spice, oak, caramel, and tobacco notes developed over ten years to be examined on the palate without the heat that obscures them in higher-proof alternatives.
