OVERVIEW:

Our selection was over a year ago on January 31st, 2022.  Mellissa Rift (now Master Taster at Old Forester) rolled out the red carpet for our team.  In all, we tasted through 7 samples and narrowed the field to these 2 fantastic barrels.  We've had such great success over the years with our Bulleit picks.  Great price point, great proof, and consistently terrific whiskey.  Playing up on the bus drama from both this and the last selection at Bulleit, please enjoy "DON'T PARK THERE", and "MOVE THAT BUS".

BARREL DETAILS:

Barrel ID - 2-E4-0874, Sticker Theme Don't Park There, Mashbill E = 21% Rye, 75% Corn, 4% Malted Barley
Yeast #4 - expressing flavors of slight leather in the distillate
Age – 7 years in new oak charred to Level 4

TASTING NOTES:  by Brian Beyke

  • Nose:  The nose on this one is nuanced and delicate to start but don’t let it fool you - it carries plenty of toffee, caramel, leather, and oak as well. a nice tinge of dusty floral citrus right away, before peeling away to warm caramelized pecans, cola, and brown sugar. Slightly peppery spice before a cinnamon-kissed earthiness.
  • Palate:  The palate is slightly leathery to begin but then continues on with a gorgeous spiced caramel note with a panache of oak lingering in. It moves into vanilla and honey sweetness but dances on the sides of the mouth like fireworks of red fruit and spice. There’s a pleasant nuttiness to this one - playing more like an Elijah Craig in profile than anything.
  • Finish:  The finish is quite perfect - cola, chocolate, some berry, peach, and a little oak finish the sips in a really nice harmony. There’s enough sweetness to saturate the palate and spice to continue lingering on like the perfume of your first love.
