CRITICAL ACCLAIM:

“This wine is dense, mingling spicy nutmeg along with superb ripe honey and marmalade flavors. With its balanced acidity and opulence, it is going to be a great wine.” - 95–97 PTS, (BARREL SAMPLE), WINE ENTHUSIAST (01/2017)

“Pineapple, candied orange rind, vanilla, and apricots with sweet, honey and floral notes create the nose. The wine is lush, sweet and fresh, with a tropical fruit and decadent, honey coated finish.” - 93 PTS, JEFF LEVE, THE WINE CELLAR INSIDER (04/2017)

IMPORTER NOTES:

ABOUT THE PRODUCER: “Coutet is located in the Barsac appellation in the Sauternes region. In 1787, Thomas Jefferson, future President of the United States, considered Château Coutet to be the best Sauternes from Barsac.”

OVERVIEW: "This Barsac wine derives its name from the term "Coutet", derived from Gascon meaning "knife". This word perfectly sums up the unique style of the estate's wines, which are sharp, lively and fresh."

VINTAGE: "The 2016 vintage marks an ideal climate for producing and ageing a great wine. After a wet spring that notably allowed flowering under favorable conditions, the summer was particularly dry, with light rains over several days in mid-August that promoted grape ripening. Botrytis appeared as soon as the fog arrived in the last week of September. Ripening then proceeded gradually and uniformly, with Botrytis cinerea developing in the purest way possible.

WINEMAKING: “Harvested by hand in eight successive passes. Aged for 18 months in 100% French oak barrels.”

TASTING: “COLOUR - A beautiful yellow, with golden and greenish highlights; NOSE - Reveals aromas of citrus (orange), pineapple, peach, vanilla and gorse, with subtle brioche notes; PALATE - The attack demonstrates power, generosity and creaminess, along with that sap so characteristic of the appellation and of Château Coutet in particular. You then notice a lovely freshness in the mid-palate with an incisive edge.”
