Try the rich, full-bodied flavor of Desert Door Oak Aged Texas Sotol. Made with wild-harvested plants, this sustainable spirit is aged for two years in charred American white oak barrels, resulting in notes of vanilla, caramel, and oak. Enjoy neat or in your favorite brown spirit cocktail for a true ranch-to-glass experience.

‘Sotol’ is both the name of our unique spirit and the plant we make it from. The sotol plant is not an agave but a distinct and separate species. Which means Desert Door is not in fact a tequila. So, If we’re not a tequila what are we? Imagine if tequila had a smoother, more flavorful cousin - that’s Desert Door.

Origin Story

Desert Door was born in the West Texas desert where our founders, three military veterans, first encountered the sotol plant. Sotol was used by indigenous residents for everything from tools, clothing and food to fermented drink. During Prohibition, enterprising Texans moonshined sotol. Inspired by the rich 10,000-year history, the three set out to bring this unique wild spirit and its story back to prominence.

Sustainability

Our commitment to sustainability begins with the way we harvest - continuing to honor the deep-rooted traditions of sustainable foraging, all of the sotol plants we use are wild harvested in the West Texas desert. We carefully select them at their peak without using water, fertilizers, or pesticides, ensuring minimal impact on the environment.

Tasting Notes

On the nose, our Oak Aged is akin to a young whiskey, with pleasing notes of vanilla, cedar and caramel. Sipping reveals more vanilla, along with dried cherries and oak. The finish brings back caramel and a creamy smoothness like vanilla custard, with just a hint of eucalyptus.

How to enjoy Desert Door

Desert Door Oak Aged makes a great Old Fashioned and can substituted for brown spirits in most cocktail recipes. It’s also great when sipped neat or over an ice cube.
