Fortaleza Winter Blend 2025 is an annual limited release from Destilería La Fortaleza in the town of Tequila, Jalisco — a distillery founded by Guillermo Erickson Sauza on the grounds of a storied historic estate that has been producing tequila across multiple generations. The Winter Blend is released once per year in small quantities, with each vintage representing a distinct and unrepeatable blending experiment that distinguishes it entirely from those that came before and after. The 2025 expression is built on a foundation of estate-grown blue Weber agave, slow-cooked in traditional stone hornos before being crushed by a two-ton volcanic stone tahona wheel — a method that produces a more textured, mineral-inflected juice than the roller mill techniques employed by larger-scale producers. Distillation occurs in copper pot stills, preserving the aromatic integrity of the agave through each stage of the process.

The 2025 Winter Blend is a reposado expression assembled from three distinct cask components. The base is Fortaleza's classic reposado aged in used American whiskey barrels, which provides the foundational cooked agave character and vanilla structure. To this, two French oak components are added — tequila aged in used Passito di Caluso barrels and in used Madeira casks, each for an average of six months — before the French oak lots are blended together and then combined with the barrel-strength American oak reposado. This layered, sequential blending approach introduces dried fruit, honeyed sweetness, and a wine-derived complexity that sits alongside rather than displacing the agave's inherent character. The finished spirit is bottled at 46% ABV.

The nose carries cooked agave, citrus peel, caramel, butter, and soft herbal notes alongside the mineral quality imparted by tahona crushing and airborne fermentation. The palate is richer and more textured than a standard reposado — honeyed sweetness, golden raisin, and dried fruit from the Passito di Caluso and Madeira casks layering over a core of cooked agave, light oak, and warm spice. The finish is long and complex, closing on subtle pepper, tamarind, and a faint tannic dryness from the wine wood that provides structure to an otherwise generously sweet close. Each annual release is a non-repeatable expression of the distillery's blending craft at a specific moment in time.
