30 years. Hibiki. The apex age statement in Suntory’s flagship blended Japanese whisky program — presenting the full weight of three decades of maturation across Yamazaki, Hakushu, and Chita distillery stocks in the 24-facet crystal bottle that symbolizes Japan’s 24 seasons.

Hibiki was created in 1989 to celebrate Suntory’s 90th anniversary as Japan’s first ‘harmony’ blended whisky — named for the Japanese concept of resonance and designed around the philosophy of complementary balance between malt and grain, age and freshness, distillery and cask. The 30 Year Old is the highest age statement in the standard Hibiki lineup, surpassing the 21 Year (also in the collection) by nine additional years of maturation.

At 30 years, the Mizunara oak component reaches its most expressive state — the incense, sandalwood, and Kyara aroma that Mizunara imparts requires decades of contact to fully develop, making the 30 Year the most Mizunara-influenced expression in the Hibiki range.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How does the Hibiki 30 Year compare to the 21 Year also in the collection? The 21 Year is the mid-range expression; the 30 Year is the apex — nine additional years of maturation produce far deeper Mizunara development, more concentrated dried fruit character, and the textural richness that only three decades of grain whisky aging can provide. The 30 Year is significantly rarer and more limited in annual production.
  • What makes the 24-facet bottle significant? The bottle’s 24 facets represent Japan’s 24 solar seasons (ko) — a traditional agricultural calendar that divides the year into 24 distinct periods. The design is Suntory’s visual expression of Hibiki’s philosophy of harmony with the natural cycle.
  • Why is aged Hibiki so scarce? The global Japanese whisky boom of the 2010s depleted Suntory’s aged stock faster than production could replenish. The 30 Year has never been a high-volume expression and is among the most allocation-constrained Japanese whiskies in any retail market.
