Patrón Extra Añejo 5 Anos is a rare limited edition expression from Hacienda Patrón — 100% Blue Weber agave from Jalisco aged five years in a combination of new American Limousin oak barrels and seasoned whiskey barrels, producing a depth of flavor and complexity that extended oak aging in two distinct cask types develops over half a decade of maturation.
Extra Añejo is the tequila category's longest age designation, requiring a minimum of three years in oak. At five years, Patrón 5 Anos sits well beyond the minimum — a full two additional years past the extra añejo threshold, in casks that bring two different sets of wood compounds: the Limousin oak contributing more assertive vanilla and caramel character than American white oak, and the seasoned whiskey barrels adding the residual grain spirit compounds and used-barrel integration that previously-used casks provide. The five-year aging period produces a tequila with the depth, richness, and barrel complexity typically associated with premium aged spirits in other categories.

Limousin is a variety of French oak from the Limousin forest in central France — traditionally used in Cognac and Armagnac production. It has a tighter grain than American white oak and higher tannin content, contributing more pronounced vanilla and caramel compounds alongside more assertive structure. Its use in tequila aging is less common than American white oak, making it a distinctive element in Patrón 5 Anos.
