Pinot Noir 'Elgin', Moya Meaker 2023

• 100% Pinot Noir • A 3.12HA densely planted vineyard, located on a ridge of ancient clay-rich Bokkeveld shale, made up of 5 blocks • Dijon clones 667 and 777 • The five blocks were hand harvested in different tranches for optimum ripeness • All grapes were destemmed and gravity fed to tulip-shaped Italian concrete vessels to ensure whole berry fermentation • To capture the elegance of the fruit, and avoid excessive extraction, the wine spent just 10 days on skins, with relatively short pump-overs twice per day • Spontaneous fermentation with minimal extraction • Malolactic conversion occurred spontaneously in a combination of 2000-litre conical-shaped Austrian oak foudre and 300-litre Burgundian oak barrels, 25% new, with lees contact for eleven months of maturation Malolactic conversion occurred spontaneously in a combination of 2000-litre conical-shaped Austrian oak foudre and 300-litre Burgundian oak barrels, 25% new, with lees contact for eleven months of maturation
