The original Super Tuscan and a benchmark for fine Italian wine, Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia 2022 is a wine of legendary complexity, elegance, and aging potential. First released in 1968 and now protected by its own appellation—Bolgheri Sassicaia DOC, established in 1994—Sassicaia continues to set the standard for excellence in Italian winemaking.
The 2022 vintage, marked by a hot growing season, benefited greatly from Bolgheri’s unique maritime microclimate, which preserved balance, freshness, and acidity. Hand-harvested throughout September, grapes were picked progressively from younger vines to hillside vineyards like Vigna di Castiglioncello, sitting over 300 meters above sea level. The blend of 88% Cabernet Sauvignon and 12% Cabernet Franc was aged for 23 months in French oak barriques, 40% of which were new.
In the glass, Sassicaia 2022 reveals a dense, complex profile. Aromas of minty lavender, citrus, and sweet spices emerge gracefully on the nose. The palate is vibrant yet refined, offering notes of ripe red fruit, graphite, and sandalwood, framed by firm yet polished tannins and a long, layered finish. Though enjoyable in its youth, this wine will gain depth and richness with 4–5 years of cellaring and beyond.
