Care & maintenance
Borosilicate glass is durable, but thermal shock still happens. Treat it right, and it lasts indefinitely.
- Hand wash preferred: Warm water and mild dish soap work best. The wood collar and leather tie should stay dry, wipe them with a damp cloth only.
- Rinse the filter after every brew: Coffee oils build up in the mesh and turn rancid. A quick rinse under hot water keeps the next brew tasting clean.
- Deep clean monthly: Soak the filter in a solution of 1 part white vinegar to 3 parts hot water for 15 minutes, then scrub gently with a soft brush. Rinse thoroughly.
- Avoid extreme temperature swings: Borosilicate glass handles -4°F to 302°F, but don't pour boiling water into a cold pot straight from the freezer. Let it come to room temperature first.
- Wood care: Once every few months, rub a drop of food-grade mineral oil into the collar to prevent drying and splitting.
