The 2024 Domaine Sylvain Langoureau Puligny-Montrachet 1er Cru "La Garenne" is an elegant, high-altitude Chardonnay from Burgundy’s Côte de Beaune, known for its precision, white peach, and mineral notes. Typically produced in limited quantities, it offers a refined, classic Puligny expression with good aging potential.

Winemaker Notes

Just 20% new oak here. A high slope vineyard with poor soils known for racy wines, La Garenne seems to be coming into its own with warmer harvests. Very classic nose of white peach and blossom. Taut and nicely bound, super concentration, weightless and effortless as it flows across the palate. Peachy fruit, a suggestion of creaminess, before the tense drive reasserts itself and finishes with a fine mineral line. Excellent value, this is a classic Puligny.

Winery Notes

This husband and wife team is located in the hamlet of Gamay nestled between Puligny Montrachet and St. Aubin. In close proximity to the Grand Crus, Domaine Sylvain Langoureau is made up of numerous small parcels totaling 8.5 hectares. Owners of plots in St. Aubin, Meursault, Puligny and Chassagne, Sylvain and Nathalie's vines are planted to 75% Chardonnay, 15% Pinot Noir and 10% Aligoté.

Everything here is done by hand and with great care. Vines are pruned to a maximum of five shoots for naturally low yields. No treatments are performed in the vineyard past mid-July and the Langoureau family is experimenting with cover grass in certain parcels to promote root competition and to minimize erosion.

The winery is essentially a garage and a cellar. Sylvain vinifies his reds in the stainless steel tanks in the garage and ages them in the cellar that is packed with barrels of fermenting and ageing white wines. These wines are elegant gems and very limited.
