The Macallan Sherry Oak Cask Strength is a full-strength expression of the distillery's signature sherry-seasoned oak character — bottled undiluted to deliver the boldest, most concentrated version of The Macallan's classic Speyside single malt, with entirely natural colour drawn from the cask.

The Macallan's Sherry Oak character is built on casks crafted in Jerez de la Frontera, Spain, seasoned with sherry before travelling to the Easter Elchies estate in Speyside to be filled with new-make spirit. Bottling at cask strength — without the dilution of the standard 40–43% releases — preserves the full intensity of dried fruit, oak spice, and sherry sweetness the seasoned oak imparts, along with a richer texture and natural colour with no added colouring.

Tasting Notes

  • Nose: Sticky dried fruit and dates, candied citrus peel, and warm cinnamon spice
  • Palate: Rich and full-bodied — dried fruit, oak, sweet spice, and stem ginger, intensified at full strength
  • Finish: Long and warming, with oak and lingering ginger

Frequently Asked Questions

  • What does "cask strength" mean? The whisky is bottled undiluted at the strength it reaches in the cask, rather than being reduced with water to a standard 40–43% ABV. This delivers a more intense, concentrated flavour and a richer texture.
  • How is it different from the standard Sherry Oak 12 Year? Both draw on The Macallan's sherry-seasoned oak character, but the cask strength bottling is undiluted — bolder and more concentrated than the standard-proof release.
  • Does it use natural colour? Yes — the colour comes entirely from maturation in sherry-seasoned oak, with no added caramel colouring.
