Torabhaig became the second distillery on the Isle of Skye, and the first since Talisker in 1830, to be granted a license to distill. Planning for the distillery began in 2002 and the first distillation took place in 2017. The distillery is located near the town of Teangue and some of the out buildings were built using stone from the Caisteal Chamuis (also known as Knock or Cnoc Castle) dating back to 1630 and Clan MacDonald.
The Torabhaig Allt Gleann Batch Strength is part of the Legacy Series and uses both Concerto and Laureate barley. The spirit phenolic content of the barley is 78+ but that is reduced to a whisky phenolic content of 22.8 prior to aging in a combination of first fill and refill bourbon barrels.
Nose: Peat smoke, fresh lemon, sea salt and oaky vanilla.
Palate: Lovely combination of sweetness and spice with the alcohol well integrated. Mango and soft nuttiness on the mid-palate.
Finish: Short finish with tannic dryness at the end.
