Bloodroot Cabernet Sauvignon Sonoma County 2022

WINERY NOTES:

TASTING: “The 2022 BloodRoot Cabernet grew in a warm vintage, providing it with plenty of depth. It also showcases the cool nights and varied nuances of its vineyard sources. It possesses notes of blueberry, cassis, and coffee combined with more plant-based notes of sage and lavender. On the palate it has dark berry, plum, and cherry cola notes. (93% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6% Merlot, 1% Cabernet Franc; 14.2% ABV)”

BACKGROUND: “For those in the know, Sonoma County has become the source of some of the world’s best classic Cabernet based wines. Its abundance of micro-climates and direct influence from the Pacific Ocean produces wines that can be full flavored yet savory, layered, streamlined, and full or aromatic enchantment. We are enthusiastic to make classic California Cabernet inspired by the wines of the 70s and 80s.”

VINTAGE: "The key event in the 2022 vintage was the heat wave around Labor Day that lasted about 10 days. In the best cases this provided a real sense of power and breadth to the wines like you see here.  We were also able to retain a good sense of freshness and a reasonable tannin profile.

VINEYARDS: Sourced from vineyards in Knights Valley, Rockpile, Sonoma Valley, and Dry Creek Valley

PRODUCTION: Completely destemmed and fermented in small vessels for between 24-38 days; aged for 27 months in a mix of new (38%) once used (32%) and neutral barrels (30%).
